Our Story

Meet The Team

Zenith Dental Academy was founded by five colleagues who have all trained and worked in specialised areas of clinical dentistry, all with extensive experience and qualifications as dental educators. Their mission was to create a postgraduate dental education academy dedicated to enhancing clinical professional development within a supportive and nurturing environment.

Dr Kate Blundell

Kate completed her Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) at the University of Liverpool in 2005. She earned Membership to the Faculty of Dental Surgery (MFDS) from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2007.

Her passion for endodontics began during her vocational training year. After gaining valuable experience in hospital dentistry and university teaching, Kate pursued a Master’s in Endodontics at the University of Manchester, graduating with distinction in 2011.

For over 13 years, Kate has focused exclusively on endodontics, successfully managing thousands of complex cases in collaboration with dentists from across the North West. She has been actively involved in teaching since 2007, initially delivering undergraduate endodontic education and, since 2014, contributing to the Endodontic Doctorate programme. Her tenure as a Specialty Dentist at Liverpool University Dental Hospital from 2013 to 2021 saw her working alongside specialist colleagues to provide advanced endodontic care for medically compromised patients.

Kate currently divides her time between co-owning and practicing at two referral practices, Sandstone Dental Practice and Sunlight Dental Practice, and her ongoing teaching and clinical commitments at Liverpool University Dental Hospital.

Professor and Honorary Consultant in Restorative Dentistry

Fadi completed his undergraduate training in Jordan, his PhD in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and his postgraduate clinical training in Restorative Dentistry in Liverpool. He is the Director of the Postgraduate Programmes at the University of Liverpool. He developed the 3-year Professional Doctorate programme in Endodontology, which received ESE Accreditation in 2020. Alongside his colleagues, they developed the UK Endodontic specialist curriculum and syllabus. He chairs the Education and Scholarship Committee of the European Society of Endodontics.

Fadi’s research focuses on improving patients’ outcomes in endodontics and dental trauma. Alongside his academic work, he maintains a specialist private practice focusing on Endodontics and Restorative Dentistry in the Wirral peninsula.

Dr Kathryn Fox

Professional Development Coach & Honorary Senior Lecturer

Kathryn qualified in dentistry from the University of Leeds in 1991. After gaining experience in both general dentistry and oral surgery in Sheffield, she gained a Masters in Restorative Dentistry with distinction and became a Clinical Lecturer in Restorative at the University of Leeds. Subsequently she gained her PhD, undertook clinical training and became a specialist in Prosthodontics. Following a move to the University of Liverpool, she became a Senior Clinical Lecturer and joint Academic Lead for Restorative Dentistry. She also held the roles of Director of Continuing Professional Development and Chief Academic Advisor. Kathryn was awarded a Senior Fellowship by the Higher Education Academy, and in 2019 received the Alistair Pilkington Award for excellence in teaching by the University of Liverpool. In 2021, after 30 years of clinical practice, Kathryn retrained as an executive coach at the University of Cambridge, and now undertakes individual professional development coaching for both dentists and non-dentists, alongside lecturing and team workshops regarding coaching and intergenerational working. She is also a member of the European Mentoring and Coaching Council. In addition, in her role as Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Liverpool, she continues her research in dental education with a particular interest in reflection and feedback.

Dr Emad Moawad

Senior Lecturer & Honorary Consultant In Endodontics

Emad qualified in dentistry in 2009 and, after gaining experience in multiple aspects of clinical practice, he moved to Liverpool in 2014 to undertake specialist training in endodontics. Following three years of full-time training, he completed the collegiate specialty examination and attained Membership in Endodontics (MEndo) from the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh in 2017, and In the same year, he was awarded a Doctorate in Dental Sciences (DDSc Endodontics) from the University of Liverpool. He joined university of Liverpool as a clinical lecturer in 2018 then progressed to a Senior Clinical Lecturer role and Consultant in Endodontics at the University of Liverpool Dental Hospital.

Emad is the director for the Postgraduate DDSc in Endodontics program at University of Liverpool and leads both undergraduate and postgraduate clinical training in endodontics. He is an active researcher, with scientific publications in endodontics, and a member of the British Endodontic Society and the European Society of Endodontology. Emad is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and in 2019 received the Alistair Pilkington Award for excellence in teaching by the University of Liverpool. In addition to his university and hospital roles, Emad delivers endodontic courses for foundation dentist and is an examiner for the membership in Endodontics exam at the royal college of surgeons, Edinburgh.

Alongside his teaching and research, Emad provide complex endodontic treatments, and surgical endodontic procedures at both Liverpool dental hospital and in private practice.

Dr Robbie Williams

Consultant Oral Surgeon & Implant Dentist

GDC Number – 228694

Robbie qualified from Newcastle University in 2012 with merit in both clinical and academic dentistry. He has gained extensive experience teaching and working for over a decade in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Oral Surgery units in hospitals in the northeast and northwest of England. He now works as a Consultant in Oral Surgery at Arrowe Park Hospital as well as a specialist in primary care.

Robbie has completed multiple postgraduate qualifications including a PGCert in Postgraduate Medical Education (with distinction). In 2019 he achieved a master’s degree (with distinction) in Dental Implantology and passed the prestigious Tri-Collegiate Membership in Oral Surgery examination at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2021. He has gained a fellowship at the College of General Dentistry and has been approved as a member of their Implant Mentoring Register. 

In addition to having published multiple papers in peer-reviewed journals, Robbie also authored the OMFS chapter for The Oxford Handbook for the Dental Foundation and Core Training Programmes. He lectures nationally and internationally on oral surgery and dental implantology as well as mentoring colleagues training in both primary and secondary care.
